This jar is made by forming a solid mass of clay between my hands and then gently carving the inside out to create the inner bowl. This process, known as kurinuki, is a very slow, diligent and organic method of making with clay; a method that requires absolute devotion of listening to the clay body. The process is most definitely reflected in the fluid and natural, perfectly imperfect, lines of each piece.
